B.A. in Tamil Literature

B.A. Tamil Literature - Stands for Bachelor of Arts in Tamil Literature. Typically, a B.A. is a three year course, minimum eligibility for which is an intermediate (10+2) in any discipline. Tamil is the study of literature, linguistics and philosophy of the Tamil language. Subjects typically studied under this degree are Poetry, Drama, Fiction, Literary Criticism, Literary History etc.

Basic Eligibility


For joining a bachelor’s degree course, the candidate must have passed the higher secondary school certificate or 10+2 from a recognized board. The duration of the course is usually three years.

Job Prospects

Different  career options are available for graduates in this field, for instance one can become a teacher, translator or a freelancer as well. For imparting a program in the foreign language, the educational institutions mostly look for experts in this field.
Option for taking private tuitions is also available. There are various types of jobs available for interpreters, such as consecutive interpreter, general interpreter and liaison interpreter.


Translators also work in fields such as scientific literary, technical or business. Freelancing is the new trend in the field of language. Freelancers join research firms, translation bureaus, publishing houses, international organizations, hotel industry, travel and tourism sector etc.

Pay package: -

Those who want to put up a career in teaching foreign languages can start earning in the range of Rs.10,000 to Rs.20,000 per month.  Candidates working with embassies can receive a compensation of Rs.8,000 p.m. to 10,000 p.m. Translators are paid between Rs 50 to 100 per page. Interpreters generally earn around Rs 300 to 500 per hour.
