The Industrial Training Institute (ITI)
There are various “Industrial Training Centers” & Industrial Training Institutes, constituted by the Directorate General of Employment & Training (DGET), Ministry of Labor & Employment, and Union Government of India that provides technical training. In India they are the backbone of Vocational education.
Scope of ITI education
Given the cut throat competition these days in various segments of the industries it is important to get proper training to stay ahead. Any educated person should be trained with right skill sets and any company wants the best candidate for mutual benefit.
There are various educational institutions both in the private and government sector that provide training in ITI services. Students can take this course directly after their school (10+12). They can start their job in the technical field right after their degree or even choose to pursue a higher degree in this field for more promising career. There is also a range of short term courses such as the Advanced Training Institute (ATI) for enhancing technical skills of students.
Other than having an ITI diploma or a ITI degree, companies look for other skills as well in a candidate which could include:
- Activities related to manpower services should be strong
- Build abilities on working on solution for anti-solution activities
- Have skills on management counseling

- Mechanic of Electronic items such as Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, Pump, etc.
- Machinery worker in Art & Craft, Agriculture, Farm, etc. industry
- Mechanical Civil Draftsman
- Computer Operator Programming Assistant
- Machinist Grinder, Plumber, Welder, Black Smith, Carpenter and many more.
Other than the above mentioned trade profiles, the ITI candidates can also open up their own garage, sops specializing in winding or fabrication depending on which trade they chose during training. Industrial training is essential for students in the engineering domain which are offered by some renowned companies such as Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Bangalore, PI Technologies PVT, LTD. Indore and Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited, Haridwar. Even the travel and tourism industry also seeks trained ITI students who can get training from institutes such as the Tourism School in Delhi and the Bird Academy.
